Northern California Coast Range Introduction

Across Northern California's Central Valley from the Sierra Nevada lies the wonderous Coast Range. With its rugged mountains and deep river valleys, the Coast Range has great canyoneering potential. Arid hills give way to chert and granite canyons, dropping down through playlands of emerald pools. In 2007, the Waterway Down team just cracked the surface of the canyoneering opportunities afforded us by this stoic range. Canyons fall down dry mountainsides into the Eel River drainage, home to dreamy pools and enormous fish. Narrow hallways and relatively warm water distinguishes canyons in this area. The exploration of Coast Range canyoneering is just beginning.
